What version of Windows, and what version of messenger are you running?
Do you just want the programs not to load, or to be completely unavailable to the user?

    Thanks steve for your help.

    windows xp sp2 msn 7.5 build 7.5.0322

what I want is for 1 user to not be able to access msn for a period of time.

I have deleted the desk top icon for msn but it still loads in the task bar? is that the right term, the small icons at the bottom of the screen.

It is important that I only remove access for this one particular user and not for the other users.

what you can try is going to C:\Program Files\Messenger right-click msmsgsin.exe, go to Security, choose the user you don't want access, and put a check mark in the deny column for full control.

now, if the user in quesion is not listed, you would have to add them first:
from the same security window, choose Add --> Advanced --> Find Now --> choose the users you need to add --> click Ok --> click Ok again.

sorry ace but there is no msmsgsin.exe in the c\ program files\messenger folder. there is a file called msmsgs.exe but right clicking bring up the usual "run, scan for viruses, cut, copy, properties menu but thanks for trying.

Perhaps we have different versions. I have version 4.7.0.3001 of microsoft windows messenger and 7.5 of MSN messenger.

I tried removing MSN Messenger in add remove programs which was successfull the reloading a new version in the hope that it would give me some options but it loaded everything into "all users"

any other offers of assistance would be much appreciated.
