    Hello
I believe the location in the lower right is a task bar but correct me if I am wrong.
I have tried services.msc, disable etc. Also tried messenger preferences .

I have windows xp sp3 and run msie 7.
I have two identities with Outlook Express and although I have somehow fixed the messenger from appearing when I open O.E. on the desktop I forgot how to do it so it always appears on the lap top.
How can I remove it with out getting into the registry?
    Thank you

If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Hello
I am sorry, I do not want to remove the messenger, just remove the icon from the task bar lower right everytime Outlook Express opens.
I did it for my desktop but forgot for the laptop. I have googled and tried everything and it can be done. Services.msc indicates it is disabled and in O.E. preferences does not have an option to disable it.
Hope you can help and thank you

My apologies for misunderstanding what you were asking.

    Does this help?

Hello and thank you all for the instructions to remove the icon from the System Tray. It worked and enlightened me about this component feature.
I have heard of tool bars but I don't know where I got task bar from. :wave

Task Bars the little but down the bottom where all of your open Applications and Windows are displayed.

The white bar at the bottom has the clock.
Is that the task bar or sytem tray?
What is confusing is there is only one bar at the bottom.

A similar problem whenever MS Outlook 2007 opens, the messenger icon appears in the system tray with the notification that messenger was not signed in. After extensive research I found the solution:

    In Outlook, go to Tools>options>other

    Bottom of window: Person names

Uncheck "Display online status next to a person name"

    close/restart outlook

    It has not reappeared since!;):)

    Hello
I don't have Outlook, I have Outlook Express. When I followed your directions I hit a snag as the two are different. Thank you anyway.

    Hi

Kestrel13's post #4 should in the Resolution section stop this from happening when opening OE.

I followed Kestrel13 post 4 but when I clicked apply nothing happened.
Please ssee my post 4/17/09 where I mention I removed the icon by using the component feature in add/remove.
I'm sure Kestrel's post would have worked had I not already disabled Win Messenger.
    Thanx again for the help.
