    Hello all!

I recently removed malware using Malwarebytes and the "Vista & Windows 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure". Now I can connect to both my wireless and wired networks, but not the internet. I've already checked that proxy settings are disabled, firefox & explorer addins are disabled, checked hosts file, and reset Winsocks.

Are you connecting to your wireless/wired networks via DHCP or static IP?

Have you executed 'ipconfig /all' from a command prompt and verify that you have a default gateway address for the adapter that is being used to connect to the internet?

Are there any other computers on the network not able to connect to the internet?

It connects via DHCP, I have verified that it has the correct gateway. Other computers are able to connect to the internet via the network with no problems. Only the computer that had the malware removed cannot access the internet, although it can connect to the network. I've tried wirelessly and wired, the same problem exists.

I had a similar situation with Windows XP SP3. Ran Combofix, SuperAntispyware and a number of other tools, besides clearing the IP stack, removing/resinstalling network components. Finally uninstalled SP3 and was able to reconnect to the Internet.

+1 on uninstall of XP SP3. I had tried everything also after my "Rootkit Zero Access" infection. My DHCP was working, & 2 other computers in the house worked fine, so I knew it had to be this one computer, not my network or router & modem. I could view google for example by typing in the ip= 74.125.113.104 & the page would come right up. Try it by name..google.com & I would get an error of Can't view the web page. I looked in Add/Remove programs, checked the box for "Show Updates" & the last update for Microsoft was XP SP3 in November. No other updates of any kind after. That was my hint.

I uninstalled SP3 & upon reboot, the connection started working immediately & went right to work installing Microsoft updates. Since then all the updates have successfully installed, including SP3 & the computer works fine now.

Your mileage may vary, but it was my last try before giving up to a complete re-install & it worked, thankfully.

You got me thinking...I am running into a problem with being able to download things like antivirus software for my computer. I also ran the Windows XP Malware Removal for my OS. You think SP3 is affecting my ability to go to certain web sites like Microsoft.com as well? I do have access to the Internet (I'm surfing now)...or is it my firewall (it's Windows Firewall, which is enabled)?

I have ran into this also previously on computers I've worked on. If you can surf some sites, but not say..Microsoft.com, or download Antivirus updates, I think you may have a malware problem. What antivirus are you using. Usually, I've been successful using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Antimalware finding & getting rid of most malware & viruses, even when Mcafee & Norton didn't find or protect from them. An effective method with the two I've mentioned is to boot up into safe mode & run full scans with them both, rebooting back into safe mode, doing the process repeatedly, until I'm sure they are all found & caught. You could manually download them, along with manual updates to a flash drive on another computer, transfer them to your desktop & run from there.

Hope this helps, & any questions, ask away..good luck.

I'm working on that issue now. You're right on target! I can't connect to Microsoft.com or certain web sites to download tools. Thanks for letting me know I'm on the right track. :)
