Removing a Poisoned iPod

Still not sure if this is technically a hardware or software problem, but I'm leaning more towards the software side of things.

I'm stuck in small-town Korea with a sick computer and no English-speaking tech support in the immediate area. I'm hoping someone can help.

I recently plugged an iPod into my laptop (a relatively new Vaio running Windows Vista) and have been suffering the consequences ever since. I do not nor have I ever owned an iPod, so when I plugged it in, I saw the “Installing Device Driver” or some such message I usually see when I plug in a new flash drive or similar USB reliant device.

Shortly thereafter, the computer froze and the problems began.

After two weeks, the most I can do is load windows for 4-5 minutes at a time before the system freezes. I can't keep it floating long enough to run an anti-virus program (although I can custom scan individual programs and files.) After a little detective work, I've noticed that every single time I scan a certain folder (c:/programfiles/commonfiles/apple/mobiledevicesupport/bin if I'm not mistaken) Windows is a guaranteed freeze.

I know (or at least think I know) that I have to remove the iPod and it's associated files in order to begin the computer healing process, but after futzing with Device Manager and the Uninstall Program option, I came to the conclusion that I have NO idea what I'm doing.

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

I wish it was that easy.

Whatever has settled into my computer freezes it every time I do anything to access the Mobile Device Support file. Which means... yep, freezes every time I try to uninstall it.

I'm trying to get creative with my solutions, but I'm at the end of my rope. Any other thoughts?

Can you use a restore point before the iPod was plugged in?

    Hi

Could also try the Apple KB from Safe Mode as at times if something else is holding onto this file and causing the crashes, it maybe released in Safe Mode.
