My Friend has recently been having problems with his computer, mainly with not being able to load any webpages in his internet browser even though he still can connect to various programs that use the internet such as AIM, Steam, and Ventrilo.

Though we are not sure, we are assuming this is being cause by his copy of Norton internet security. He has tried Uninstalling it, but it will not let him.

Even if this is not the cause of the problem, he is sick of the program and would like it removed. Any help with his internet problems or removing norton would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: oh, we have also tried reinstalling his browser and using a program called symNRT.exe to try and remove norton but both did not work.

What browser and OS? I remove Norton in safe mode and then run the removal tool, twice, that Sikvik gave you.

You can then use one of the freeware anti-virus programs you can find here, (AVG, Avast, or Anti-Vir).

He's using windows XP & firefox.

we also just tried using that program you recommended but he is unable to boot up in safe mode. He says he gets an error and it go's back to the startup asking him what mode to boot up in.

Is this Norton program a recent addition. If yes, he can restore to an earlier point. Does IE function okay? What version of IE?

Else try using Revo uninstaller, very powerful.

The fact he can't boot into safe mode is disturbing in itself. Try running dialafix,

And from a command prompt; sfc /scannow
    Note the space after SFC.

If this doesn't work, I'd recommend a visit to the malware section of MG.

    Luck!:)
