Well i have had Norton on my computer for many years, i get on the computer and the first thing i do is run Norton's live update, and install the updates, i thought they were good because they updates everyday! Then one day i got an Trojan and Norton did not even notice it or say anything and spy ware doctor told me i had it and deleted it, i was mad, thinking Norton was good, then it happened again(don't ask me were I'm getting all these, because i don't know!) and not a beep from Norton but spy ware doctor got it and removed it! So I'm saying farewell to Norton and hello to another anti virus! Some problems i have is i do not have the original cd's for Norton.

Now i know there is a special way of removing it but i do not know it so can some one help me remove it, remember i do not have the cds only the program itself, so what should i do got to add and remove programs and uninstall it or is there something else, and what other anti virus can i get that is free and someone recommends, by the way I'm not paying for Norton.

    thanks in advance:major

:celebrate Another PC user sees the light! It may be true that Norton had quality products maybe 5 years ago, but the past few years their products have become bloated and require more and more PC power while providing less and less adequate protection. I realized Norton had less than desirable detection rates when I noticed the number of PCs that were massively infected with viruses and spyware that were also running current, up-to-date Norton software. It's really disgusting. It doesn't help that alot of the major PC retailers and manufacturers are 'in cahoots' with Symantec as it just perpetuates the myth that Norton is a quality product. Norton would be unacceptable if it was free, but they charge for their incompetence which is completely over the line and borders on fraud in my opinion. Anyway, enough of the rant  There are several quality free antivirus tools that offer great real-time protection. I use and recommend Avira's AntiVir; I also recommend Grisoft's AVG. Both are free and have automatic updates, auto scan scheduling, and more. And both can be found here at Major Geeks.

In the above post, Steve offers great info about the complete removal of Norton, and provides links to some other good stuff, check it out....
