Removing (or otherwise, blocking) IE

So, I don't know how, but I'm getting quite a few trojans and spyware coming in lately, which I'm taking care of myself...but one which I can't seem to find, keeps popping up random IE windows. The thing is, I don't even use IE anymore, and no antivirus or anti-spyware software can find out what it is.

So, since I don't even use it anymore, can anyone help me out with uninstalling Internet Explorer, or either that with finding some program to stop the process from even running? This whole thing has me desperate, so I'd really appreciate it.

Internet Explorer doesn't run, unless you invoke it. Now if you are getting popups in IE, its due to malware in your system.

I reccomend running through this and visiting our malware forum, if the problem persists.

What about the process iexplore.exe I see in Task Manager? Any way to just block that alltogether?

Like I said...it doesnt pop up, even as a process, unless its invoked, by user, or another application. By default, Windows does not do that.

Could you remove permissions for it to stop running? Sure, but it could cause problems.

Well, I'd like to get the permissions to stop it from running...I know that it doesn't just pop up without something causing it, but I'd like to stop it from coming up at all, since I don't need it to begin with.

If it causes problems, then I'll just revert what I changed, or I'll just deal with them. As far as I know, if I can click "End Process" on it in Task Manager, then I can do something to either kill it as it comes up, or stop it from coming up. If it bleeds, I can kill it.

    XP Home or Pro?

    Lets just assume, Home.

Go to Safe Mode. Locate iexplore.exe.

    Right click, Properties, Permissions tab.

You can remove permissions from here, but at your own risk.

You can try making a "customized" version of your OS eliminating IE, I know a couple of programs (in Spanish) and Bart PE...

Thanks...and I'd rather not reinstall my OS just for that minor annoyance.

Yes it is XP Home, and I'll be doing that shortly. Oh, and it is possible to revert the changes, right? I'm 90% sure that I can, but with how you're saying all of this stuff is at my own risk and stuff, I'd rather ask before acting.

Bart Pe is not a customized version of XP, its a customized version of WinPE, which is a shell of what real XP is.

yes it is, but its not as simple as clicking "defaults" button.

    Remember what you have changed.
