Removing some ramsinks from a fx5900 xt

Has anyone succesfully removed a ramsink from a fx5900 xt, or indeed any graphics card. Please only post if you have succesfully done this and know of a good method you can tell me.

 

Don't try this at home kids. I just did, broke the chips clean off. My FX5900 is now dead.

 

How did you try and remove them,by just pulling them off?I was going to suggest warming them up with a hairdryer and levering them of by slipping a razor blade between the sink and the chip,since I havnt tried this to remove ram sinks I didnt post as per requested,may I ask why you wanted to remove them?

 

you were supposed to put it in an air tight bag and put it in the freezer for 30mins to an hour, then they come clean off.

 

I am dumb I know. I was trying to remove them to place a Zalman fan and replace the heatsinks. I did put it in the freezer, for 60 minutes, I got 2 of them off, but 2 were stubborn and pulled the chips clean off.

 

mine just twisted off at room temp!!

 

With thermal tape I guess? Mine were glued on with epoxy resin. Well no probs really I just ordered a 6800 GT so I'm still happy.

 

Must be nice to be able to break a video card, then immediate buy a more expensive card! I wish I had that kind of money. Oh wait, I do, but, I'm pouring the money into a pool table. So never mind!
