removing subtitles

I have downloaded some movies (avi) to my computer but they have annoying subtitles, so I want to know what program is available for removing them. Thanks for any help.

You looking for an answer outdoorgal? The first simple one is right click in most media players and turn off subtitles. If that is not an option they may be part of the video & you'd have to crop them out.

I'm looking for a way to leave out the subtitles that download with the youtube videos. I downloaded a movie yesterday and it has subtitles. I play it using Plex.

Thank you for replying, I didn't ask the question because I thought the thread was probably dead. If you know of a program (I found 4kdownloader, and another one YTD I think it was called) Neither gave me an option to "block" or leave out any subtitles when downloading.

If the subtitles are 'embedded' you might be able to hide them with a program like Media Player Classic - Black Edition.
I have no idea if that will work using Plex.

 

You'll have to re-encode with something like http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/any_video_converter.html
Select no subtitle - if it is not an option then the subtitles are embedded in the video and "can't" be removed.

 

If the movies are hard coded, you could try a program like AviUtl to blur the subs, not altogether satisfactory, but can make them more watchable
