Repair or Re-install Explorer question

I bought a used Gateway laptop that came with Windows 2000 installed on it. My system specs are 10 gb HD, Pentium II, 128 mb ram. I tried upgrading to IE 6 and the install failed. I can use my file sharing program to download files over the internet, but IE no longer is able to access the internet. I've also tried getting online with Opera, Firefox, and Slimbrowser but they didn't work either. In order to use the internet I will have to succesfully re-install or repair the current installation of Explorer. This is my problem: I don't have the Windows 2000 installation CD because I bought the laptop off of Craigslist and it didn't come with it. However, on my desktop I have Windows XP installed and I have the retail CD that I bought as well. Can I use my Windows XP cd to repair or re-install Explorer on my laptop that has Windows 2000 installed? If I can't do that is there any other way for me to solve this problem without having to buy a new Operating System? Any help would be appreciated.

I should also mention that I can't repair it by going into ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. It doesn't show up there for some reason.

Thanks ASUS. However, it didn't end up solving the problem for me, but others with this problem may be helped by that MS article.

Sadly, the vast majority of people don't have the decency to reply back with what the solution was.

This would help others who are experiencing the same problems as well as build up a valuable resource, but who am I kidding, that will never happen.

I read on another post in MG that Micro$$oft allow a user to install OS's on a laptop and a desktop at the same time with the one original CD. Someone please confirm, one way or the other.

It may be better for you to upgrade your laptop to XP so both PC's run the same OS. Bazza
