The motherboard died on this laptop so I got a replacement board for it. I installed it and when I put it back together I got 7 error beep codes. So I took it back apart. Checked to make sure I put the cpu in correct. Put it back together again and this time I get nothing. The battery led light is on, but that is it.

So I took it apart again and put in another CPU ... put it back together again and the same thing. Nothing just the led light on the battery.

I don't know what I did to mess up. Could it be the ribbon for the power switch is bad? Any ideas?

7 beeps often indicates a CPU problem. Did you make sure you didn't touch the pins or pads. Did you thoroughly clean the old TIM (thermal interface material), then properly apply a fresh new layer?

Where did the replacement board come from? Was it an exact replacement?

What were the symptoms with the old board?

Wellsir ... It all started when the laptop suddenly shut down without warning. I could feel it heating up so it was clear the motherboard was shot because I tried to replace the CPU and there was no change.

I did remove the old paste and applied fresh. I made sure I didn't apply too much. I didn't touch the pins and I made sure it was not damage.

This is where I got the replacement board. The numbers match my old board

The only difference between the replacement and the old is a cap that was near the usb plug on the mobo is not there on the replacement.

Without it being in front of me, I don't have much to suggest. If yours has two sticks of RAM, you could try with just one and see what happens.

You might try with the battery removed too. If you have a replacement power supply/charger, and you are sure it outputs the same voltage and polarity, you might try that.

The heat could have indicated a cooling problem - not a motherboard.

The link does say that board is used - but also says it has a 90 warranty.

I have two sticks of ram. Took both out and tried with each ... nothing. I did remove the battery. I unplugged the power cord removed the battery held the power button down for 20 sec. plugged the cord and nothing.

I'm sure it was the motherboard and not the fan. I tested the fan with a 9v battery and it worked fine.

I was given a link to this service manual and I was looking at a section that talked about a power button panel. but I am not seeing an kind of panel that will come out. It talks about the ribbon too, but nothing about seeing it is functioning.

Well, it sounds like to me you might have gotten a bad motherboard. I would certainly inspect the cables too.

You mean the ribbons? Can I get replacements? I will contact the seller and tell them see what they say. Thanks.
