replaced MB now my wma music won't play

motherboard fails so it has been replaced. Now everything works but if i play my wma files that have been ripped from cd's don't work (about 20gbs worth). wmp and realplayer will error out and close when they are played. If i play mp3 file it works fine.

I have downgraded wmp then upgraded it again. removed it then reinstalled it. also put a new sound card in.

I would think it has something to do with the security of the wma files. I have done searches and can't find a way to repair the files.

I had that problem years ago, never figured out how to fix it. Ripped all my "One hit wonders" to wma (untold hours doing it) and found them useless after a hardware change.

Try VLC player. It plays most anything. If it can't play them then it is probably a security issue.

If no luck with VLC, there are apparently some fixes available now although I have never used them, here is a guide that may be useful.

 

I am looking for a way to fix the drm. Since there are so many songs I don't want to crack them orconvert

 

Unfortunately, I believe that when you ripped each song a code was generated based on your hardware at the time. Each time you play a song Windows checks that code against your current hardware. When you changed motherboards the code no longer matches your hardware. So Windows thinks you are not the owner of the music. It won't let you play the songs.

You will have to use some type of software to remove the DRM or re-rip the songs no matter how many files you have. The link I gave you won't work since you can't play the wma files.
