replacement video card

Have a Dell Dimension XPS Gen 3, P4, assume a 32 bit desktop.

The video card is J3886 Radeon X800, 128 MB with a very loud fan that I would like to replace.

Since it's an older computer, I probably don't need the lastest/newest expensive video card, any suggestion on the current cards that are reasonably priced and comparable to the X800.

 

What do you consider being reasonably priced?

Since the motherboard pci-e slot is set for PCIe x1 and the card is 2.0, it will process at x1 but you still bump up to DDR3 1 GB memory.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've oiled the old fan, has yet to see if it'll reduce the noise. Hopefully it does.

Yes, it will. However, since the motherboard processes at 32-bit the card will process at 32-bit as well instead of 64. Same holds true with the DDR3. Your board probably has DDR2 or less so the memory will function at the motherboard speed as well.

Going from 128 MB to 1 GB is pretty nice for $55.00.

Tried out the oiled fan and it's quiet. So I'll hold off buying replacement for now. I can probably get a more powerful one later on for about the same price.
