Hi! I also have at my mother's house a Win98SE minitower. Its latest problem is that its flash drive stopped working, and it includes much of the computer's information. It also has other issues, including a broken CD-ROM drive, a hard drive that's too small and some excess software loaded on startup. :( Should I get it repaired, or should I get it replaced? If replaced, I need to copy some stuff off the hard drive. BTW, if replaced, I can use a ZIP100 drive to copy some of the software off the hard drive.

Hi! I have a Win98SE minitower at my mother's house, but it has some issues, the last of which is broken USB ports so it can't read a flash drive that acts as a second hard drive. I'm wondering if I should get it fixed or replaced and, if replace, where I can get a new one. I just looked on eBay for a new one but didn't find what I want. I want Win98SE, Pentium 2 or compatible at at least 400MHz, 128 or 256 MB RAM, between 10 and 16 GB hard drive, a CD drive of at least 40x speed and at least 2 USB ports. A ZIP100 drive is preferred but not necessary, as I have three parallel ZIP100 drives at my mother's house. I only need Win98SE to be installed, as I can supply the other software. The rest of the parts I have already, so I just need the minitower.

that always depends on how much money one is willing to spend.
    except for this place:
    https://nixsys.com/legacy-computers/windows-98-computers
i would think every win98 computer, out there, would be used/refurbished.
my boss bought one of their computers because we needed win xp 32bit on new hardware.
it's been a good computer for us.
i would think that you could email them and get just what you want, nothing extra.
    good luck with it.

Thank you. :) I don't have the money now, but when I do, I may try them out. I'm going to look right now, though. :)

I just looked, and their prices are too expensive for the purpose. I want no more than $150 for the unit.

I see over a dozen windows 98 that are towers on the link. So what is wrong with what was posted?

Is there any way I can get one custom-built for cheap in the U.S.A.? I am willing to spend no more than $200.

I don't understand why you want antiquated machinery and outdated software.

You're as bad as 2 former members of this site. biferi and wile e coyote

You're totally right. My main reason for Win98SE and DOS is to experiment with disk compression.

It's not going to be of any use with Win10 & Win11. ;)

Some people out there want to run legacy hardware. Especially because of old programs they love. VMs and emulators are good, but sometimes it's cool to play it "as was".

There is a market for legacy hardware.

I ws able to find a USB driver for Win98 and Win98SE online but I forgot where, but it probably wouldn't be able to use them if they use an NTFS or ExFAT file system.

What file system do you want to use?

That was advice for JonahWales. I was only able to use FAT32-formatted 16GB flash drives with my Win98SE computer.

None of these OSes are supported. Depends why you are using that particular OS. Believe it or not, Vista was a solid OS and graphically a step ahead. The gripes about it were petty, and Aero was pretty, lol.
