replacing a drive

okay cd-rom bit the dust.. bought new 16 speed dvd re writer to take its place. already have a dvd re writer installed. should I set the new 16 speed to master or leave it as is and just replace it for the cd-rom drive that bit the dust? Also, should I go into device manager and remove the dead cd-rom drive before turning off the computer and removing the dead cd rom drive physically and installing the new dvd rom drive physically? Have already deleted all software related to existing burning software. The old dvd re writer is one of the first burners to come out with a 4x speed, slow, but works ok for cd and dvd. new burner comes with nero express and power dvd. from what I've read here on mg nero is great. any tips welcome to make this installation are appreciated.

Just set the new DVD drive to whatever the old cd drive was. If the cd was master, set the new dvd to master, slave to slave, cs to cs.

 

that's what I thought I'd do, but didn't know if it would make a difference performance-wise. will let you know what it goes like.
