Replacing a power supply...

How easy is it to replace a power supply? I have never really done any of that myself.

However is it really that hard? I would hate to spend more money just to have someone switch out my psu for another one.

my '' old'' power supply has been tested and it works perfectly fine. I wish to use my old power supply on this new pc i just got because the older one was 500 watts and this new one only has 300 watts. Now wouldn't the given specs on this new pc give a hint that maybe 300 watts is '' too little' ?

my hard drive issue from my other thread was not able to be recovered. No technicians can recover my data, they insist they have to send it to a ''clean room'' to have any chance of me getting any of my data back which would cost anywhere from $350-1,100...............

 

Changing out the PSU is very easy as you can't plug anything in error, just don't force if doesn't fit then flip. The most common error is forgetting to plug a cable in.

 

So i can't actually ''fry'' my motherboard or anything if i plug things incorrectly?

 

Nope, all that will happen is it won't boot. Anyways, there's only two mobo connectors, a 24 pin and a 4 or 8 pin near the CPU, you can't go wrong there. Just be careful not to pull a cable out that you don't want accidentally. Study the current cabling and find the power cables connected.
