Replacing CD/DVD drive in HP Pavilion Laptop?

My HP pavilion laptop is under warranty and the DVD/CD drive went bad. They sent me a new one today but I have no idea how to put it in. They tried to talk me through it over the phone but I can't understand them (could be the accent). Does anyone know where there is a video or photo tutorial on how to do this?

 

If it is a newer model and the writer is modular, it should be as simple as pushing a spring return latch and pulling forward on the unit. Replacement would be just pushing the drive in until it latched. Without a specific model, that is all that I can offer!

 

Thank you for your help. This is a one year old HP ZD8000. The technician told me to remove the battery which I did. Then I was lost as I couldn't understand what he was trying to tell me to do next. Can you offer any other advice?

Hi. If this is a warranty situation, I would make them do the swap. It would be really cheesy of them not to do it for you.

 

I agree with you but they did refuse to do it for me. There are not many times that I have gotten so frustrated with a situation as this one.

 

Thank you so much for this link! I did it with the manual and it is working fine now. I have to say that it was not as easy as the manual made it sound. The drive was a different model than the one I was replacing and mounting screws were in the wrong places and had to be moved. No easy feat! Thanks again!
