My desktop hard drive is about ready to go out on me. It has been acting erratic and causing many problems. What program or procedure would I use to transfer the operating system I now have on the hard drive? The drive contains a partitioned section containing all that stuff and I do not have a set up CD (I do have the Windows XP Home software key). Since the desktop is an old one (but still in great shape) I want to be reasonable in my HD purchase any suggestions? I currently have a 40G in it.
    Thanks for the assist

    Hi

My suggestion is to image/clone your hdd onto backup media with this free app http://majorgeeks.com/EASEUS_Todo_Backup_d6195.html then install your new hdd and with the bootdisk that this app can create, boot to it and restore your cloned working OS and apps

Forgot about hard drive recomend, question is how much would you be spending for this hdd? Western Digital drives are good and one of their range would be my suggestion, just depends on hos much you wish to spend
