Everytime i try to open a certian type of file an error appears saying can not find Netscape.exe. What is this caused by and how do I fix this? also, the internet works but almost everytime I log on with DSL, an error message pops up saying an illegal operation has occured and internet explorer will now close. What is this caused by and can I fix it?

You can try a "Repair" install of WinXP, but if it still does not fix it, the only way would be to do a Fresh install of XP by formating and reinstalling the OS.

Not the operating system, eg win98se, but the file, eg text.txt or text.doc. The last 3 letters in the file name.

What one when you click on it gives you trouble?

Do you have netscape installed? If so reinstall it. See what happens.

    No go...try this>

Got your install disc of '98 handy? If so go to your control panel/add remove programs.

Find internet explorer & select it for deletion. Don't worry a box will pop up asking if you want to repair IE. (you will need your '98 disc)

Do a repair & see if that fixes it.

I went to add-remove programs and clicked to delete internet explorer and it did delete. The only thing that popped up was a message saying "your computer will now convert back to your previous configuartions." I restarted the computer and checked the internet but I was still having the same problems.

You've got one weird system there. I have not got a 98 disc so can't tell you where to go but try & find the installer/setup for internet explorer & try installing it again.

Why a box did not popup I don't know. You should find the needed exe file in the win98 folder on the disc.
