I've no clue on how to remove the fan and heatsink on this card, I'm trying to get my hands on a Zalman VF700.

Do I need to get those thermal paste (whatever that is?) ? or will they come with the Zalman ?

the thermal paste will most likely be delivered with the new cooler.. to remove the heatsink u will have to unplug the fan and unscrew the rest. but be careful! u can easlity destroy ur card

Take a photo of the back of the card so we can see which kind of clips it has ;)

if its like any other card the clips are plastic and the only way to take it off is by mauling those plastic tips behind the card.

Maul them ?? What you guys mean ? Sounds like I can easily damage my newly bought card just by trying to remove it.

After I get the Zalman I'mma have to bump this thread to ask more questions !

You heard it here first an easy way I'v just discovered playing with an old gf2 card is to get a peice of tube the same size as the hole in the card iI'v used a broken bit off a radio antenna, push this onto the clips,it will push them together and you can pull out the heatsink.

A problem I'v noticed if you use pliers, you will squeeze the end and they will flare out more as the plastic deforms,I'll try and post some pics. :) ;)

The ones on my xfx5700 were so tricky I just cut them off,no use to you because you may need to return the card,I found something better, the end of my pen is just the right size, gently push it onto the clip it closes the barbs and pushes it through all in one motion, this way you can keep a small amount of tension on the heatsink with your fingers to stop it popping back in,helpfull if there are many clips! :)

The pen is a parker solid stainless steel ballpoint,if you can get them in vietnam,if not drill out the end of a plastic ballpoint with a 2mm drill bit. ;)

Got a question, the package comes with 8 ram heatsinks. I was viewing the installation animation on the manufacturer's home page. I see that they are sticking the RAM heatsinks on both the top side part of the mainboard and the under side part mainboard where the other side of the RAM is.

Wouldn't it damage the tiny chips on the bottom side of the card ? There are 4 RAM chips on the card right ? What if I just put it on the top side ?

Hope you guys see where I'm getting at! :)

Outta curiosity, why did you want to change the heatsink and fans on this card in the first place?
