[req] alternatives to MicrosoftWord

Im looking for alternatives to microsoft word I have been using wordpad for some time. I have word how ever I would like to find a small program that is capable of the things which microsoft word is plus whatever else.... If u are using something other then microsoft word let me know and leave a brief discription of the program and capablities for myself and others.

works for me. It is an open source free program, and has other office programs besides just a word processor, but seems like a fine replacement for Word. I didn't install the apps I don't use, to keep it with a smaller disk footprint.
