Please suggest to me software that can track how much time an application of my choice has been running (or start time and end time of it). It would be good if it can start automatically on logon and monitor from the taskbar. No need for billing capabilities and such. Just time monitoring.

I did extensive search on google but found only time tracking software for working projects, which is not what i want.
The thing is that i am a freelance worker and get paid by the hour on working with a certain program at home.

    Has to be freeware too.

    Cheers...

You could try control panel- scheduled tasks-
    Click File- click new
Rename the file to your indicate program
In task , brouse to your program.
In the schedule, click first dropdown, set to 'at startup'
In settings, you could set to stop the task after a given time.
This would start at startup, and you could have the computer clock visible, for when you finish.

Not exactly what you want, but a free way to autostart and stop the program.
I am sorry, but I have not seen a freeware to do this, only shareware, but someone else might have.

Well no. I meant i wanted the tracking software to start at startup and to detect whenever this certain program starts and ends. This way i could keep track of how much time a day i work without having to calculate and remember to look at the time whenever i start and end working.

But you gave me an idea.

Is there a way to bring up the system time whenever i start the program so that it reminds me.

The problem seems to be that i cant' or dont want to remember to look at the time and keep track manually. :)

Aaagh!!! Im VERY frustrated now! I spent another 2 hours searching and NOTHING!.

I cannot believe that there is no program that can track an event on my computer such as the start of an exe!

I want to schedule a task but not on certain time but on execution of an exe. Is that possible? Not in scheduled tasks at least...

I am no good with visual basic, but I will lead you to some Microsoft technical that explains ways to track a program. I hope it is similar to what you are after - might give you some ideas - Scroll down to HellsMonitor /Service TRACKS DLL,S
    at least its free.

Perhaps someone else on majorgeeks, who has this sort of expertise might have the answer.
I have seen utilitys that offer to do this, but very expensive.

Thank you all for the responds! I cannot figure out that thing with HellsMonitor dlls. For now i just downloaded a stopwatch to run on windows start and just stay there so i can start it and stop it when i work. At least i will not calculate. :)
    Cheers

Hmm, I just had to develop something like this in PHP/MYSQL for my company.

I dont see a point in explaining. I will not be able to write the program myself. There is of corse the possibility if you would do it for me by maybe doing some copy paste in vb:)

xvszero says he works in programming, perhaps he could lead you through it, or, someone else, here, at majorgeek, like Adrenalne, perhaps ?

Well I'm kind of a programming n00b and even though I got it working, it is probably a backwards way of doing things. Because as far as I can tell, the actual timing had to be done in client side but keeping track of times in the database in server side and it turned into a real complicated thing where I had to find workarounds to actually get client and server working together.

Frankly it was messy and something I'd be scared to go back to now even though I DID figure it out... I probably should have just kept my mouth shut. I'd suggest looking for free time tracking stuff though, can't be too hard to find something freeware. I know Egroupware has all kinds of time tracking but that costs a lot I think?

Dont worry, i wouldn't expect you to write the program for me. :) At least i would'nt do it if i were you and having in mind that its complicated and stuff.
    Thank you all anyway.
If someone comes across a freeware that does that please write to me.
I'm sure that i just didn't use the right keyword in my searches.

The only program that really looks like it will help, not free, but at $15 it appears reasonable
Workproject 3.1 looks like what you are after - sorry I have no experience with it
