Requesting links to optimize kind of sites...

I am not entirely sure what I am looking for, which isnt a good start!

I was wondering if any of you guys/gals/geeks could reccomend any sites that do tutorials or give good advice on tweaking my computers settings to increase efficiency and performance. Maybee by altering windows/system settings. Or in any other way in that matter. Maybee altering the BIOS? Software and/or links will be great.

I do all the usual stuff, like defragment (Diskeeper), and clean up all the crap regularly (CCleaner, jvPowerTools). Also I use TuneUp 2007 to disable startup programs.

My system is not running slow as I got some new memory today. But as my memory is now maxxed out, I wanted to try and discover new ways of getting that little bit more.

Please try to not link me anything too technical as I am still pretty much a beginner. Also overclocking is out of the question as I am using a notebook and it gets very hot as it is.

I run Windows XP if anyone needs to know. Thank you.

 

Have you seen the thread titled Disable Unneeded Services In Windows XP? The steps there are huge towards boosting speed, I find. I guess it's a little on the technical side, but you know where yo bring your questions.

 

Thanks for that. But I have allready disabled all my uneeded services. I did it a few weeks back using another site as a guide. When I did this however Tune Up Utilities 2007 switched several back on saying i required them for the internet. Must of switched a few of I needed eh?

I looked on black vipers site, the bits which I could undrstand, dont look like anything I havent done allready, or anything i want to do.

Anyone else have any advice, links or software reccomendations about this please, its would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks BirdBath, I downloaded it and had a look, It seems to be pretty much the same as Fresh UI but more complicated. I had a look at some of the things but I have allready changed a lot of these settings in the other program.

I have just been to PC Pitstop`s site and done the online scan there, it reccomended something to me about changing IE`s buffer size but said everything else was OK. I dont think that would of done much but changed it anyway.

Ive just downloaded Si Software Sandra, And run the Analysis and Advice on it. It has come up with a lot of things I dont understand so Im going to post that in the software section as its not really appropriate here.

Anyone know of anything else? Online Analysis, Tutorials, Tips ,etc. for better PC performance? Thanks.
