    Hey all

While im playing Battlefield 2 i get a lot of connection problems and delays my actions and its really bugging me. The only program i run alongside Battlefield 2 is xfire btu that should'nt effect your ping should it?

I was just wondering is there any way to stop this internet connection problem and have a nice smooth ping? I cant think of anything that i have could be making this ping rise :(

When i first got battlefield 2 my ping was going quite nicely (most of the time 20 - 30) but now its getting ridiculous! Has anybody ever crossed this constant problem? please help!

    Thanks

Xfire does use alot of system resources. Most games you can get by using Xfire while in game. BF2 is a very different "beast". Another possibility is that Xfire is downloading updates or game files while you are playing. If you must run Xfire while playing BF2 (which I dont recommend) make sure you go into your tools, options and click on the "files" tab, make sure that downloading files while playing games is disabled.

BTW, network congestion affects your pings. Typically speaking the amount of users on the same host address in your area, which can be quite a few type of connection. (Cable connections usually have the most nodes on a host address).

    Hope this helps
    :)

yeah downloading ANYTHING will kill your ping. Especially with bf2 u wont want to have anything, aside from services, running in the background. And norton shouldnt affect your ping, it doesnt for me. I found that during the first 1 or so games, depending on your setup you will experience quite a bit of lag but deal with it, it should go away the longer you play. Have fun!

Not sure if I can suggest this, if not I am sure I will be told. Have you tried BF2 tweak guide, it can really squeeze the most from your syastem. Sorry dont have the link try googling it.

    Cheers

Hey guys i tried turning off nortons and surprisingly enough it worked great for a couple of games but then when i joined a new server with a new level it started to play up again but not as much as usual. but there was a few guys in my team who had pings over 100, would there ping lag me 2? my mate said there is a connection tweak in the back of the instruction booklet but its real difficult to do.

The first couple of rounds that rann nicely was on a good server (had ping of 15 ^^) but most or all other servers so far i have connection probs

oh and my xfire does have disabled download files when i play games but i turned it off anyway.

If you're concerned about your ping, go HERE and enter your IP.

It's on the right, 3rd one down.

To discover your IP address, go to Start, Run and type in cmd then OK.

In the command prompt, type in ipconfig then press Enter.

Hey insomniac i did that IP thing on the link you gave me here is my results:

    Ping #1: * [No response]
    Ping #2: * [No response]
    Ping #3: * [No response]
    Ping #4: * [No response]

    Done pinging

(to do an IPv6 ping for a domain name, add a ':' before the domain name)

I think obviously the "no response" is bad but what does this mean now?

OK now i think that i may have found the solution to my problem :)

I was checking out this tweaking guide for battlefield 2 (an excellent guide i might add ;))
    http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html

and it said that if your ping is playing up check to see if you have the connection settin on 256kbps or cable OR T1(LAN) it recommends that you use the 256kbps connection to obtain a steady ping :D because T1 is specially made for lan parties only and shouldnt be used unless you have a very strong connection :D so all normal broadband members use the 256mbps according to the guide.......OK i feel an absolute idiot now all feel free laugh at saucie  lol

But now connection is in good working order :D

Thanks for your help guys i appreciate it! ;)
