I have Windows 7 on Gigabyte MB with I7 chip and12 GBs RAM. Periodically I get no sound. Have no clue as why it disappeared. I look in control panel sound and it says everything is ok. I look at device manager and all sound modules appear to be ok. In the past I reinstalled the sound drivers and that appeared to work.l Now when I go to reinstall the drivers and even other applications or open some files I get the message "required privilege not held by client." Not sure how that came about. I disable the UAL. I go into the registry and change all the permissions to allow me in. I have tried many of the suggestions found in google. but to no avail. I have reached the stage where I probably will have to reinstall windows 7 and all my apps. Will do backup before I reinstall. Does anyone have any ideas on required privilege and how to completely remove it from my system.

Right click the install file and select "run as administrator".

As far as sound going mute, is it all sounds are just certain things like on the internet?

I did run as administration and that did not work. I disabled the UAL as well as changed permissions in the registry and took owner of the file. but none of that appeared to work.

As far as the sound goes, I get no sound from my system when going into control panel, sound and listen for windows normal sounds. No sound at all. Device manager does not indicate any errors. Tried to reinstall sound drivers which had worked in the past, get the message required privilege is not held by client. Thinking about reinstalling windows 7.

I ran all the files with run as administrator. I even made sure I was the owner of the file.

You keep saying UAL, do you mean UAC? User Account Control?

Do you have a sound chip or have you installed a sound card?
Also you did not state if this is a desktop or a notebook.

it was UAC. Apparently required not held by client can also refer to corrupt file or file not appropriate for the system. thank you all for the help, but had an outside service clue me in on my problems.

otieatkins, it might be better to start a new thread with your problem. kappyhappy hasn't been here since post #6 on May 30, 2015.
