I recently picked up a new system, which is running the MS Win XPpro w/Media Ctr. Edition. I went to install an older program, which ran on my old Win XPpro OS just fine...no problems. But now when I attempt to load up the program from the CD it tells me for the one disk which is for the hardware, that the program has not been certified with the Windows Logo to run on the XP pro system, and might make the entire system unstable, if I try to install it. The other part of the deal is the graphics add/on which came as part of the bundle on purchase, which will only recognise and wish to load onto my sytem all 2046 images that make up the program's files on the disk. The hardware is the AceCad Acecat USB Flair Model No. 5:x4: USB Graphics Tablet. The drivers and all for it that are asking for the Winlogo is USB Graphics Tablet Ver. U3.10 The other program which is only being recognised as a series of image files, and is otherwise inaccessible on this new system is Art Dabbler. I do know that Art Dabbler, was formerly published by MetaCreations, and that MetaCreations divested itself of most of its graphics products, including Art Dabbler. Which was since purchased by Corel. Corel doesn't seem wanting to address this particular issue. I am off to see if HP can provide me with anything, since this is an HP setup. But if anyone has has a similar problem with that particular program, or has any good suggestions as to where I could find a patch or whatever to get the computer to 1) consider the USB Graphics tablet cd valid for windows and/or 2) install the Art Dabbler program in full and useable onto my system, please do let me know. Thanks.

I get those warnings alot ( and I bet so do most of the guys and girls here ) Windows has now become aggressive in what it like to be installed and drivers are one major one, I generally keep upto date with certain drivers and because of that and the fact that WHQL certified drivers do tend to be slow in coming out, I click continue anyway and install the driver.

Only ever had a problem with one beta Nvidia driver but used driver rollback to restore the previous driver.

I would click continue anyway, as this driver worked ok on XP pro, so in theory should be ok with MCE

also check makers websites for updated drivers for those products.

Thanks Halo. I did ignore the warning/error on the install, and the disk did load/install ok I guess regardless of whether it had 'clearance' to do so from MS. The tablet came 'on' as soon as I hooked it into the front USB port, but the 'pen' won't be recognised by it for some reason. Now I am thinking perhaps that is a totally fixable thing, b/c the AAAA titanium battery in the pen, I think came with it when I bought the whole bundle, so it isn't so new, probably either. So I am going to simply consider getting another battery to solve that issue.

Now as for the Art Dabbler ver. U3.10 disk not installing...after some careful looking I eventually located a possible fix to that problem. I changed the virtual memory 'initial size MB' from 1344 to 1000 This was to a smaller amount of memory to be used as the starting point for the virtual memory setting. Now both of these programs, and probably many other older versions of other software, should have run on Windows ok. Well, actually, they installed fine that time...as I say, the first one w/o a hitch...so far but the battery for the pen, and then the Art Dabbler; this time not trying to load just image files, but installing as a real program.

So I thought the issue was solved...I went to 'all programs' and opened the available 'art dabbler'...the nice loading screen for the program came up (just like it always did on my old XP Pro OS) but then before it could finish loading the program, a new and different error arrived...something about 'not enough free memory' to use the program. So now it is back to the drawing board. I did run my Sims2 game I had installed on here prior to reworking the install for Art Dabbler. It seemed to have no problem with the new virtual memory settings. So, as of yet...I am not going to just roll them back to the 1344 MB.

I am off again to inquire of HP what they can make of the situation as it stands now.

    Thanks again, Halo.
