    Hi geeks,

Im trying to reset The BIOS on a pc but do not quite remember how to do, i believe i have to short something on the chip to clear it?? confused
The BIOS has been been corrupted (cause unknown) and now the machine will not boot.

All and any ideas/advice greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

  2. I think just removing the button cell battery from the board for a period of time (say 20 minutes) is reckoned to do this in a lot of cases.
On some motherboards there will be a jumper which, in a certain position, will reset the bios.

    Memory is still there, Jimmy.
Sometimes you can get away with unplugging the power cord and wait for 5 seconds.(Biostar have this feature)
Plug the power cord back in, press and hold the INSERT key

    Jumpers:-
To clear CMOS settings. Unplug the power cord, move the jumper cap of from pins 1-2 to 2-3
and leave it there for 5 seconds. Move the jumper cap back to pins 1-2. Plug in the power cord, turn it on.

About jumper there is 3-pins.Normaly is on 1-2.When unplug the cell button ,pull the jumper out and connect to 2-3.Wait for about 20 minutes, then reconnect the jumper to 1-2,and return the cell button.BEFORE you do this unplug the electric cord from your comp.

its an old machine pulled from stores, that wouldnt boot, kept receiving a prompt from award bootblocker v1

    'insert system disk'

i dont have the disk so i assumed a full clear and reinstall would do.

Several possibilities, from motherboard fault, to cmos battery.
I would test the battery, or replace it, first, as the cheapest option.
Otherwise remove any non essential add in cards, and start with onl one stick of ram, and try booting like that, if it is not already like that.
