I turned on my PC today as usual and noticed that my monitor resolution is missing (1440x900) also its not mentioning my monitor "plug & play" in the device manager section its simply saying "default monitor" and since it was fine when I turned it off the night before and now its not im a little unsure of what the problem may be.

Things I have tried so far to fix the issue...

    -Reinstalled GFX Card Drivers
    -Reinstalled Monitor Drivers
-Unplugged and reconnected all the hardware.
    -System Restore
-Rollback on previous drivers (it says no previous drivers were installed which isnt the case)

If anyone had any other suggestions of what the problem could be then id appreciate some help with this, thanks.

In the display properties put a check in
    See if it turns up.

EDIT do you have a link to your monitors support page.

Could you also navigate to device manager, open your monitor and post what driver file is loaded and who the vendor of the driver file is.

Yeah already tried that and nope no other icons nor an exclamation mark its just "Monitors > Default Monitor". Thing is it wasn't a problem before, I have had this monitor about 8 months and every so often this would happen and usually reinstalling the GFX or Monitor drivers sorted it out (it would then allow me to put it to the correct res and the Plug and Play Icon showed up in Device Manager under Monitors) however this time its just not sorting it.

Dont know if this may have anything to do with it but the other day I had a Trojan virus on my PC and I followed this link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 every step and removed it, I re ran scans after and they no longer detected it so I assume its gone, could this virus have changed any setting I might not be aware of or perhaps the scans I was linked to done anything that may need changing back?

Update: Have tried reinstalling my entire operating system and reinstalling all the drivers yet its still not allowing me to goto 1440x900, I tried an older non flat screen monitor and it has the resolution for that, any suggestions?

    OS - Windows XP
    CPU - Intel Pentium D 2.8Ghz
    Video Card - nVidia GeForce 210 512mb
    RAM - 2gb DDR II

I reinstalled my GFX card drivers AND monitor drivers, yet it's still showing up as "default monitor" in Device Manager.

Can you talk me through what happens when you try to install the monitor driver, just to confirm the driver your trying to install is the one I linked to in my previous post?

Right try doing it this way, download the driver I posted below, right click and extract it to your desktop you will get a file called sp39951.

Now go to device manager and open properties of default monitor and click update driver, when prompted click let me choose a specific location, then have disk, browse computer and choose the file you just created inside there's file called 'files' select that,i'm not sure what will happen after that as I can't install the driver myself,it may just install or you may have to select your monitor.

I dunno if this will work so let me know what happens, you may have to navigate to the .inf file.

OK I tried that and it seems to have picked up my monitor as shown in the screenshot below, although when trying to change my resolution to 1440x900 (which is my monitor's native resolution) it's not shown there. The max it goes up to is 1360x768.

Right do you have another computer you can connect it to?I'd try connecting it to another computer, install the monitor driver and see if the resolution appears, two different computers with different operating systems if you can, that's what I'd try next,if the resolution still isn't there go through all your built in monitor options see what ya can see,if it still doesn't appear the monitor is kaput dig out your warranty info.

    If this isn't possible;

What I'd try now is reinstalling the latest WHQL driver for your video card AGAIN :-D From display properties click advanced, your vid card tab, resolutions and refresh rates, uncheck hide modes my display wont display.Depending on the driver your using your may have the option to enter a custom resolution and refresh rate, enabling this is different depending on the driver version, then try entering your native resolution and refresh rate.
