    Can anyone tell me if the Resource Meter (rsrcmtr.exe, or its equivalent) is available in XP Pro.

    Path in W98SE was Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Resource Meter.

    Can't find it in XP by path ,or name, or Help files.

    Can anyone help, or provide an alternative that I can minimise down to an icon (by the time, lower right)?

    Can I use the W98SE rsrcmtr.exe file in XP Pro? Hope someone can help, one way or the other. Bazza

    XP and W2k use resources alot more efficently than the 9x versions that is just not needed, XP uses memory in a far superiour way.

    maybe this small app could help Tinyresmeter http://pesoft.fr.st/

    but a resource meter is XP is really not needed IMO.

    Halo to the rescue again. Thanks Halo. ;) Tinyresmeter is not quite what I was looking for, but I will use it. I have read many times that XP manages RAM much better than W98SE, :p but you hardly ever run out of memory. Resources management is the weak point in W98SE (maybe XP as well) and ResourceMeter keeps an eye on System, User and GDI resources.

    This is what I am trying to monitor in XP, if possible. Anyone with any ideas on this?

    See if this is it Bazza.

    You can Monitor your System Resources by using the System Resource Meter. The System Resource Meter is part of Windows; you can find it in Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Resource Meter. If it isn’t installed you can install it from the System Tools Section of the Windows Setup Tab in the Add/Remove Programs Applet in the Control Panel.

    I don't think that is correct Bazza, I checked on my XP Home and nothing. Must have been for W98 and 98SE only.

    Should have known better, if it was available Halo would know. :eek:

    Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and select Processes > View > Select Columns and from there you can add more tracking options to the task manager.... maybe not what you want Bazza but worth a look anyway.

    Task Manager has lots of good stuff like CPU usage, PF usage, Physical memory usage (all in the Performance tab) and Network utilisation too. Not to mention the processes tab which lets you see exactly (well, its rounded) how much CPU and memory each process takes up, and who it's being run by!

    Another shortcut is CTRL-SHIFT-ESC :)

    Thanks guys. I tried Halo's link to TinyResMeter, posted earlier. When you use it, it points out that System, User and GDI are for W9x PC's, only. Lots of good info using that program, though. You can select what info you want to appear on it's display. Would come in handy as a troubleshooting aid as well.

    As Steve figured out, his reply is also for W9x only. Will try your other suggestions after I log off. Bazza
