    Hi

I folded years ago for a bit but stopped and kind of forgot about it/didn't want to bother with it. Anyway, I want to start folding again.

I have the MG team number, and have set all defaults (got a passkey from Stanford), but I'm getting nothing on my client (SMP 6.0). Please see screenshot for the issue, and please help!

You need 6.34 or ver 7.0, ver 6.0 is obsolete. What hardware do you have?

Hmm, well I got the software directly from Stanford's site. Can you give me a link for those versions please?

Hardware's gonna kick some WU this time. 980X (not overclocked, but still).

Gawd, what I could do with that puppy!:drool:cry Anyways, here's the page with 6.34, near the bottom. Ver. 7 is in open beta but it is stable. I'll do a bit of research on the 980x and see what it takes to get the bonus points. I'll be back soon

    Code:
    -bigadv -smp 12 -verbosity 9
to get the 6903 monster WU's but it would be best to qualify quicker without running that until you have 10 WU's under your belt, then go all out. Will you be running 24/7?

    Hehe, you'd beat my 2 machines combined @ 4GHz with 70K PPD.

Thanks for the help! I'll leave it at default for the first dozen or so WU's, and then crank it up as you suggested.

Most people think I was stupid for getting the 980X when the 2600K was already released, but I opted for the "older" technology for a few reasons:

    1. It hadn't been confirmed, but the next gen Intel i series were supposedly incorporating hardware DRM, which I didn't feel was right. I'll have to look into whether that ended up going through or not.

    2. WHEN I purchased this CPU, SB was new, and the mobo selection wasn't that great, and they were still working out the chipset issues. Sure, I could've waited 6 months for the sh*t to settle after hitting the fan, but why wait, when newer technology is just going to keep coming out anyway?

    3. The 980X has more multicore processing power than the 2600K, period. As most applications are able to take advantage of all CPU cores and threads, it's an outstanding processor even at this moment.

EDIT: Still having errors. See screenshot please.

Nevermind, my system was being 'tarded and the Comodo Firewall access request wasn't popping up. Looks like I'm good to go for now!

Still man, at $1K/copy, I can't afford that. :eek I can't tell which client that is but create a folder on your root drive and copy/install there, outside of program files at least and try again.

Next time you need to post your log, just highlite and copy then paste between the code tags, the '#' button above, it keeps it legible and short unless one needs to scroll through it.

I was too lazy to copy and paste... print screen was easier. :p

Yeah, the processor was pricey, but I'm set for a long time with a kickass machine all around (don't ask how much I put into this sunuva). I just wish my screen hadn't taken a crap... I have yet to get around to sending that sucker into LG (I made a review thread of it in Hardware).

Anyway, as I said, issues are resolved. Quite the difference between the versions though... one @half a MB, this one at around 20MB for the installer!

Damn... I'm going to have to wait until ambient temperatures are more computer (and human) friendly. Two of my cores are over 100C!

EDIT: Nevermind, I'll just configure it to utilize only a percentage of the CPU for now.

OUCH man! We don't want to burn that one up!:eek I don't let mine go much above 70C, that's my line in the sand with my added cooling. Good to see you got it going.:)

Well, apparently one of the BETA parts of 7 is the CPU limit function doesn't work. It still wants 100% of the idle CPU no matter where I set the slider.

Apparently the 980X can do fine with anything under 100C, but that's too hot for my comfort. I need to look into some good aftermarket cooling solutions... know any good cheap water systems for the CPU/GPU combo (Nvidia GTX 470)?

I agree but it does so much more too besides just loading up the CPU, if your video card supports folding be it ATI or nVidia it will load that up too, also calculates your PPD but does not include the bonus yet and does not do multi-platform calcs yet.

I don't use it as I prefer the control that 6.34 gives me though the points are the same. Stanford at least is trying to make ver 7 more user friendly like BOINC is, it is really a 'set it and forget it' type of thing but not for Stanford.

Well, I need to do some more reading. I binned 7 and got 6.34, which is only using 5% of my CPU right now, though I set it at 60%.

Any up to date tutorials that might help, that you know of?

You missed the -smp flag I believe and you don't need to add the '12' as it will automatically pick it up. I don't do non -bigadv folding so I hope I'm right. Post up your config file and I'll take a look at it. They have good tuts right next to the client download button.

Welcome (back) to the fold mcsmc :major

I have chilled out on production as the cost to run air conditioning costs more then it used to,but will kick back in (production) once temps cool down.

There are some really good buys/deals on self contained water cooling for what you have.

My favorite would be the H50 even though it is the oldest version.

Thx. for helping the cause and "our" team.

I like that the h80 has two fans for a push-pull airflow pattern. Not sure how big of a difference it will make but yup.
