Restarting problems

I have a recently built computer using an Asus M4A78LT motherboard with a AMD Phenom II 970 CPU.
The starting and restarting was okay in the beginning but it has become increasingly difficult to start and restart. All of the power seems to come up and all of the lights come on but nothing but a black screen. Sometime if I keep hitting the reset button it will start. Left to it's own devices it will at some point boot up on its own.

When it is up and running and I restart it the same issues occur. If I keep fussing with it by turning the power off and on and hitting the reset switch a bunch of times it may some times start but I am beginning to think all of these actions have nothing to do with it because as I said eventually it will restart.

The CPU, motherboard and the case are all relatively new within the last month. In the beginning it all worked okay.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

Well no one replied to this request but would like everyone to know I finally think I have solved the problem, anyway it is working now.

I decided to check the memory sticks since they were new as is the whole installation.
I tried unplugging them one at a time and running the computer without one at a time. When I started it up with the 2nd one removed everything worked normal. I tested it for restart for sometime and it never failed. Unfortunately when I reinserted the 2nd memory stick it still worked! I expected it to fail but it has not failed since then so I am thinking it is cured. I suppose it was a re-seating issue or something.

Anyway it is working very well for now.

I had (have) a similar problem, restart usually is not a problem, but turning my PC off is. If I switch the PC off (via the Windows screen) 20:1 it won't restart, black screen, disk drive lights come on for varying lengths of time, then nothing (except the CPU fan).

Have you looked inside the case while restating ? I correlate my failure/success with the CPU fan (but it's not as you might expect..)
