HI. Years ago when I got this computer, (xp) I made my restore discs, 6 of them in fact. If I make new ones will it take me back to the time I brought this computer, or to the time I make them now? My main question is because of the updates. Will I have all the updates if I make the new ones now? Does take a long time to update again now. Have this computer for 8 years now. Don't really mind too much if I crash. Easy to download the programs I have. Just go to Major Geeks and grab the free ones. Only paid for one -- Windows blind. Also, what's a good program to use to make the restore discs? Thanks

Hi Coffee Guy. This is what I do. I have a 1TB external USB. I use a freeware program called Macrium Reflect. Very easy to use. I create a image of my OS once a month or when ever I make chances. If I have a problem, I restore that image of my OS. It will be exactly like it was the day I made the back up image. It will have all the updates except for any that were created after the image was created. This is the only way to go for a computer like yours.

Hey oneeyejack, Thanks for the reply. Just got finished with making the discs'. You said you do this once a month, well this ole retired guy can't afford to buy that many disc every month. ( ha). Took 19 cd's to do the job. Yeah, yeah, I know, should have used dvds'. Only had two dvds' left. Had bought a 100 bundle of cd's a week or so ago. Not knowing how many disc's it would take, used the cd's. No big thing, but wow, 1 1/2 hours later, here I am, Thanking you for your help. Also , it was an easy program to use for a guy like me. Thanks again!

Your welcome!!. Skip a couple of nights eating out and use that money to buy a External USB. I have seen 1TB on sale at staples for 50$. At least you know you can do it. If I understand you, you used Macrium Reflect?? It's really better to have a USB. You can do more with the image. I right click on my C drive, Left click on Create a image, follow the wizard and I have a image of my OS in 10 minutes. I can mount that image in Windows Explorer and copy and paste from it. I'm going to send you a PM with my email address. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I enjoy helping people learn how to use this program. I'm 73 and retired.
Sorry, but I couldn't send you a PM with my email address!!!

Hi Coffee Guy! I was hoping I could give you my email address in a PM. I guess you don't have enough posts for me to do that. Here is several tutorials that should help you. You need to make a rescue CD also. Very easy to do. It's a Linux CD. You can read how to do that from these tutorials. You will need the rescue CD if you ever need to restore your image.:wave

PS I think several of our members use Macrium Reflect and will be able to help you also. You will need the rescue CD if you ever need to restore your image.

Hello again. On your other post about making myself a recovery disc using Macrium Reflect, I thought that's what I did when I was using those 19 cd's. It copied C & D drives . Do I need to make another rescue disc ? I still have the ones I made when I first got this computer. Like I said, it's just doing the updates that are a bit of a pain. Guess I still need help in understanding the procedures to go through. By any chance do you live close to Spring Hill Florida? I'd buy you a cup of coffee and of course a donut or two for any help. Is that bribe or not. (ha)
