Restored files no good

I know this is probably hopeless but I thought I'd ask anyway.
I recently borrowed a friends hard drive and accidentally erased half the files! (ouch!) I managed to restore all of them, I thought, using "Restoration" and most of them are fine but one of the video files is playing strangely. Basically the screen is tall and narrow and there is no sound. I've tried playing it on a few different players but no luck. Any ideas?
