restoring an acer pc

my boss is trying to fix an old acer pc and when he uses the restore cd (which he checked for scratches and what not) it loads through every thing until it gets to loading the windows files (the second boot) and then it doesn't want to load certain files(so many in fact that it bsods). he tried using a different windows CD but it does the same thing with seemingly the same files(havent checked yet) i dont know what the error codes are but i can post them in a few days.

any help would be greatly appreciated

 

If the computer doesn't have any critical files on it that you are trying to retrieve, and you have a copy of an OS disc (XP, WIN2000, WIN98 etc), it is probably best to do a complete install of the Operating System.

 

thats what im talking about doing when were trying to restore it (format and reinstall) it bsods

 

If you are certain that the HDD has been formatted and that the OS CD is ok (as would seem to be he case seeing as you say you tried 2 different copies), I would have to think that this is a hardware problem.
Check the fans and make sure they are operating and free of dust.
You might also clear the CMOS, although this is not vey likely to be the source of your problem.
The easiest way to do this is to remove the CMOS battery ( a small "watch" type, coin-shaped battery on the motherboard) wait a few moments and then replace the battery.
