Retarded Mouse?

Hi all - a few weeks ago my mouse (a wireless Microsoft) started acting funny. The cursor would stop moving, jump around, and just generally act odd. So I replaced it with a Logitech wireless, and the new one does the same thing. For instance, getting the cursor to the "send" button will probably be a challenge. Usually it will get close to a box (or whatever) stop, then jump past it. I have checked for spyware, and viruses. The computer is a dell running windows xp. I haven't added any hardware, and it didn't start happening right after I installed any particular software. Further, it doesn't do this all the time - and when it starts I have tried closing every program one by one to see if that's it, but it doesn't affect the mouse. Any ideas? Thanks, Carl

I have similar problems with my USB mouse, so I'm going to follow your thread... if you don't mind a hitchiker?

I'm sure you already know this but are you using your infrared mouse on a dark surface, it gets confused if it is on a light one and wanders off to do its own thing.

Yes, it is on a dark surface, but it is on the same surface I have always used. I'll try a pad though.

I'm assuming the mouse in question is an optical mouse? confused

If so, it needs to be on a surface that is a flat color or one color. Optical mice or mouses if you prefer aren't too happy on those decorative mouse pads. :D:eek::)

Also which OS are you using? There are tweaks to help with the jumpiness.

If I recall correctly, back in Win2000 there was a setting to help with this. Can't seem to find it right now. But it didn't always help. :(:eek:rolleyes
