Retrieving IPs from Instant Messenger users

    I have two PCs, one where I'm at in South Korea and one where my wife is at in Kentucky, haha.. yeah, I'm sure you've guessed I'm in the Army, heh. My question is if there's anyway to retrieve my other computers IP from my wifes screen-name on AIM whenever she's online.

    The reason for this is that I like to remote into her PC to fix stuff for her because she's quite computer illiterate and needs help doing stuff all the time. We only have dial-up ISPs in her area, so everytime she gets online, she gets a new IP address via the ISPs DHCP server. So in order to get into her PC, I have to walk her through the steps to get her new IP every time she needs help with something. So I'd like to just have some way to be able to pull her IP from my PC and do stuff for her when she's away from her PC but still signed on.

    I've tried going into the command prompt and using "netstat" to see all connections to my PC, but I can't make out anything that would tell me her connection to me.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    Use LogmeIn.com, and after the free trial, pay the monthly if you want full access.

    Would the 'netstat' command show the IP's of users connected via messenger ?

    Haven;t tested this, but you could try:
    Get ip address of anyone you have a connection with or that is trying to Connect to you

    Now how to look at this can be confusing unless you know what your looking for. If you have a instant message program such as "aim" and you direct connect to someone you have a "established connection" with them. So using this cmd command you can view their ip.

    Usually the port number is "4443" and i noticed sometimes it doesn't work so i am guessing it is because that the person has a firewall. So here is the script.

    open notepad and enter the following:

    @echo.
    @color 09
    @netstat -n
    @echo.
    @pause

    then save as "GetIp.cmd" and when opened you will view all established connections.

    .net is a central server... I don't think netstat will tell you the IP of your msn messenger contacts. I just looked at my netstat -ano before and after starting a conversation and nothing changed. Process ID 3504 (msnmsgr.exe) has three ports open. 1 is a TCP connection to 207.46.4.52 which, after a nslookup was found to be baym-cs184.msgr.hotmail.com, and 2 UDP ports on which it is listening on. (I assume that they're for file transfers....?) I'm fairly confident that your chat traffic will be directed through these connections, through MSNs central server...
