    Hi,

There was a similar topic to this one posted in 06, but my question is a little different and I know things change over time. So, I posted a new topic.

I bought a computer from Circuit City and it is a lemon. I am exchanging it, but I have used it, mainly on the net, for bill paying, passwords, etc. I never downloaded anything (other than firefox) so any info would be in ie or Firefox. I mainly used Firefox which I uninstalled. I completed the full system restore too. I had it packed up and someone mentioned that some of my personal data may still be in there somewhere.

Do I have any concerns here? Or, can I just go ahead and return it.

Note: I saw the thread about the Darik's Boot and Nuke but I am now on my work computer and the one I am returning is already packed up to return. I can't download things here at work.

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance,

    GL

    Hi

Well if you have deleted as much of your personal files and data as in uninstalling Firefox and its associated files and folders, plus all your Documents and Files etc and then did a restore to default with the makers restore option and not the Windows System Restore then the makers restore will have wiped the drive and installed back to factory settings so any data "should" be removed ok.

A caveate to this is while data can be deleted their can be traces or fragments left, BUT only the most determined data recovery experts will be able to get and peice this data together, especially when its been overwritten by a factore restore, likelyhood is when its shipped back to factory its checked over and HD wiped again or depending on fault various parts scrapped.

Thanks ... that makes me feel better. I was concerned about some flunk out employee getting my identification, but I guess it would be too difficult. I think I will just take my chances.

    Thanks again.
