Has it ever happened to you that you created an email or other Internet account, typed in some password and forgot what it was? If the answer is yes, you may find this utility handy. – The answer was yes. So I downloaded and installed PW revealer v.1.0 from your site but it reveals no passwords at all. What am I missing?

Alternatively, is a better way to recover lost passwords?

    Cheers, Eli

What did you lose this password to? (Hotmail, for instance??)

Yes, we can give you specific password recovery instructions this way

Have you tried visiting this link?

Also, if you're using Firefox, it may be that your password is stored in the password manager. Post back if you use this browser.

PWReveal probably doesn't work because Windows won't store online passwords, IIRC

hello again. i am using firefox indeed.
thanks for posting the yahoo sign-in help link but problem is i do not necessarily provide real personal data when creating a new email account. and worse, i cannot reproduce them. the only thing i know is my login name and i can fill in the security image. is that enough to recover? is there anything saved at all, even if you do not check the box 'remember password'?

Yahoo itself might store the password in a cookie if you DO select that box, but that would require an intimate knowledge of the technical side of that site to recover... hopefully, you are ACTUALLY referring to the dialog that Firefox itself pops up. If so, we can recover your password from Firefox. Please do the following:

    1. Open Firefox
    2. Select 'Options' from the 'Tools' menu
    3. On the 'Options' dialog, select the 'Security' section (in FF 2.0)
    4. Under 'Passwords', press the 'Show Passwords' button
    5. On the 'Remember Passwords' dialog, press the 'Show Passwords' button.

Here, you should see your yahoo password listed next to their URL, if you have set Firefox to remember the password for you. Please note that if you are using a version of Firefox previous to 2.0, the steps may vary slightly, but are essentially the same. This dialog is in all versions of Firefox I've ever used.

thanks! i indeed found a password there of another account but not yahoo. maybe this is because i always check, dont remember or ask me for login and password each time. so, its safe, after all...

but thanks for your time and effort!!

If you still know the email account name, you should be able to use the password recovery facility... any reason why you can't?

Did you by chance choose an alternate email address in case you ran into trouble?

Something I do when I'm setting up a new user account is to record the exact user ID on my computer and Palm (by synchronising) and a hint to remind me of the password, such as "What country is it?" when perhaps I chose Albania for the password because I was studying Albania at the time. (This is only an example; don't think I gave you any help to crack my ID people!! ;)) That way, the password isn't available to anyone but me and I can recall it really easily.

I also use the same group of passwords all over the place. I have about 10 passwords randomly used which I vary gradually over time, such as changing the spelling from American to English (neighbor/neighbour) or changing lower case to upper case or numbers spelled or not, etc. These tricks give you a wide range of passwords with a limited number that could be the one needed according to your hint.

Anyway, as I asked, how come you haven't just used the forgotten password utility?

hi there. i had already given up on that account. cant use the forgotten password utility as i did not write down albania or other countries. that makes it very tricky. all i know is the login. can reproduce the security image when asked but cannot match the once given account info. guess that's it then.

Duh! Didn't register properly that you have to complete step 1 AND 2, not 1 OR 2, even though I've had to go through this process before! That could make it a bit tricky!
