    Thanks for your help.

I am using XP Home SP3.

I was using Revo uninstaller to remove a program and it appears to have removed too many entries, essentially wiping out part of, or most of my registry. When I restarted I had to use "last known good configuration".

I had made a restore point just prior to removing the program but I can't get system restore to start. When I try, nothing happens. The same is true for every other program I have tried, but, for some reason Internet explorer works and I have internet access. Also the programs that should autostart on startup do not.

Sometimes, when I click on a file or try to start a program, I get an error message saying there is not program associated with the file and to make one, but I am unable to do so.

Any help would be appreciated. At this point, if I could just get system restore to start, I think I will be OK.

    Thanks.

Thanks anyway, but I solved the problem. I had to fix my broken exe association, which I did using this helpful site:

    http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php

Unfortunately at this point system restore would only come up as a blank white window, but I cut and pasted some dll files into the command prompt and all was well.

Just wanted to mention that there is one part of this software that could be improved. When the screen shows the reg entries found, instead of allowing you to click reg entries in the full path to the one you want to delete, it should only present you with a check box next to the bolded, removal target entries (or require you to choose to have the other boxes enabled).

Apparently, according to the directions, reg keys and such will ONLY be deleted if 2 conditions are met: The box is checked, and the entry is in bold. I have NOT tested this, because it could cause major problems like the one described here if anything not bolded were deleted. However, just in case it actually doesn't require both conditions, then you should not be allowed to delete any entries but the offending ones.

Just wanted to mention that, because as long as only the bolded items are checked, I have never experienced any problem with the software. I would never, ever use the MS Add/Remove utility again to remove programs. Every time, it fails to delete the entire program including reg entries and directory paths. This software is one of those that's so good at what it does, I don't hesitate to pay money for it.
