This is a Dell Dimension running XP Pro. I have the recycle bin problem described elsewhere on this and other forums whereby deleted files do not go to the bin, but are directly deleted. I have fixed the problem temporarily by renaming the c:\recycler folder and then letting Windows create a new bin, then deleting the renamed folder. This lasts for a day or two then the problem returns. I'm looking for a more permanent fix short of reformatting. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Right click recycle bin, select properties. Do you show the same settings as shown in the attached picture? If not, perhaps another member will be able to help you.

Yes, that is exactly what I have done. By following that procedure, the problem is corrected for a day or two, then the same thing happens again. I'm looking for a more permanent fix.

Found this link, did you? http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm Select the "R" and look for Recycle Bin.

Ton of info there on it. Hopefully, you'll find the permanent fix.

PS: Googled a lot and perhaps it may be a corrupted file. "Corrupt info2 file"

I tried the registry fix from Kelly's Korner but it did not work. When I delete a file, I get prompted as to whether or not I want to send it to the recycle bin, I click on "Yes", but the recycle bin still shows as empty. I have verified that "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin" is unchecked.
As I mentioned previously, renaming c:\recycler, and letting windows create a new recycle bin does work, but only for a day or two, then I get a message stating that the recycle bin is corrupt, and deleted files no longer show up in it.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Dom:
Thanks for the response. Your suggestions are exactly what I have been planning. This computer holds some pretty important data, and as you suggested there is obviously some corruption in the operating system, I have noticed a couple other quirks.
Appreciate the information. And hopefully someday I'll be able to spell "Recycle" correctly.
