Rewritable Drive Issue

Hi. I have a Sony DRU-810A DVD/CD Rewritable drive that I had installed after I bought my computer. It has worked great for the last 18 months. Now all of a sudden, it will not power on, the eject lights do not come on, and strangest yet, my computer does not even see it any more. The DVD-ROM that came with my computer and that is installed directly above it is working just fine (plays DVD's and CD's just fine.) My tower is an HP Pavilion a320n. Running Windows XP.

I have not installed any new software or other programs lately. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

 

That is really odd that your pc does not see it and wont power on but it plays dvd's and cd's fine. I would say the drive is faulty now. How much did you pay for it and is it still under warranty i would not think so about 18 months in less you paid for extended warranty.

 

I understand what you said, the top burner is fine the one below wont work, try checking the power plug on the rear of the drive, even go as far as switch the power lead from another drive. ed
