right new power supply?

I am trying to upgrade the power supply in my Dell dimension 8250 (p4, 2.8ghz, agp port) so I can add more powerfull video card. The current psu is only 250w. Dell is very stingy on information about anything they don't sell themselves (like mobo's or psu's).

I was looking on Newegg, but I don't have mobo specs, so can someone tell me do I need a psu for a plain atx or atx12v or otherwise?

Also, as a separate question, what would be the most powerful video card that will go in an agp machine (2x/4x)? From what I see on new egg and gamespot, it seems like the radion x1950pro agp cards are the fastest that will go in that agp.

 

Can't remember all the Dell specs but the 8200 is an 800M RAMBUS machine and too slow for fancy graphics. You would also probably need a Bios upgrade.

you lookup Dell info on the Dell site, not the newegg site!

If you put in a non Dell motherboard you will find the Dell specific WinXP will not load.

for that dell you'll most likely need a 20 pin ATX with a P4 +4pin but to be on the safe side i would try to get a 24 + 4 because most 24s have where you can detatch it to make it a 20 + 4, usually only advanced boards have the 24+4

 

I did look on the dell site. Their info on some things is quite good, but not on mobo specs. I have seached for hours through their database and forums, and still not found more than I already knew from the owners manual.

Oh well, I'll figure it out myself just by openning the machine and comparing what I see on the board/psu.
