I recently had a Dell 8100 hundred given to me, with Win ME installed. First let me say that I love WIN98 and hate Winme and xp. That being as is may, here is the problem.

    Currently have 128 mb ram.

    Memory Module Properties:
    Module Name Toshiba THMR1N4E-6
    Serial Number 3607810
Module Size 64 MB (4 devices, 32 banks)
    Module Type RIMM Module
    Memory Type RDRAM
    Memory Speed PC600 (300 MHz)
    Module Width 16 bit
    Module Voltage 2.5 V

    Memory Module Features:
    HeatSpreader Present
    Thermal Sensor Not Present

I read that it uses the same slot as DIMM. I checked out the price that Dell wanted for 512 MB memory which was $342.00. I couln't believe it. Now my question is that since it used the 184 pin DIMM slot, could I replace the RIMM module with DIMM. I have plenty of DIMM chips from my other computer.

My computer is always running out of memory. I can't take it any more.

Here is a snap shot of my current memory situation.

    Physical Memory:
    Total 127 MB
    Used 102 MB
    Free 24 MB
    Utilization 81 %

    Swap Space:
    Total 250 MB
    Used 124 MB
    Free 125 MB
    Utilization 50 %

    Virtual Memory:
    Total 2044 MB
    Used 87 MB
    Free 1956 MB
    Utilization 4 %

    Problems & Suggestions:
Suggestion Install more system memory to improve applications performance.

    In a word NO

RIMMs AKA RDRAM do have the same footprint as DIMMs with 184 pins but thats where the similarities end as a notable difference is they location keys are in different places ( the little cutout/notch for getting the ram modules the correct way around ), AFAIK RIMMs always coame with alu heat spreaders as they get damm hot, RIMMs always need to be installed in matched pairs ( and if mobo has 4 memory slots.. the the empty two have to have whats called a CRIMM a fake so to speak in both the others as all slots need to be filled for a RDRAM mobo to work ) wheras DIMMs can be installed as a single or dual or three modules of various sizes ( unless Dual DDR is used and same as RDRAM they need to be matched pairs )

I have some PC800 RIMMs, either 128 MB or 256 MB. PM me if you're intrested.
