I was dragged kicking and screaming into creating a Google+ profile by my editors at a couple of websites. I have no idea how it works, but somehow it affected ad traffic which in turn affected site revenues. Didn't use it for anything else, and couldn't possibly care less about it being gone. I hit a rough patch and haven't written anything for anybody in almost two years anyway.

or -> googlies : those that voluntarily drink the google kool-aide.
i have done my best over the years to avoid the big tech's ecosystems,
whether it's microsoft, apple, google, yadda yadda, there's a lot of
outstanding 3rd party programs out there that are more pleasurable to use
than what the is foisted upon us by the tech giants.
the extensive list of software, here at majorgeeks, is testament to that.

A hell of a lot of third party software is very insecure and leaves you wide open to hackers and the installation of malicious code.
It wont matter if your Windows 7 or 10 install is totally up-to-date if you have one installed.
Developers of these apps push the software out without even much of a thought towards security in the name of selling it and earning a $$.
Often privilege levels are assigned at the highest grades within the executable levels of such applications because this greatly reduces the need for tech support, but it presents a great danger to its users.
Lets face it, tech support chews up time and money for these developers so they just want things to work.

You all wine and bitch about the big boys tracking your movements but im betting the browser your using to post here is doing exactly the same.

If you have an internet connection and send data across it, big brother is watching and there is sweet FA you can do about it, so get used to it.

The only consolation with Google is that they spend millions on security where others dont, as its in their best interests!
They are not one of the largest companies on the planet today for nothing.

Maybe so, but I'd love to see Open Office (for example) actually compatible with Excel. Every time someone sends an invoice to my office using it, I have to retype the entire thing because the PDF it creates is jacked up seven ways from Sunday.

I agree....love Open Office but its compatibility with MS is somewhat suspect even though MS added support for .odf, or so they say?

The latest Apache softs are well patched and easily checked in Shasum.

I get calls "You haven't updated your listing in a while. Press 1 to speak to a rep." from google Business Listings. I have told them many times, the owner no longer has this number. They try to give me a procedure to remove it from the listing. This as often as bi-weekly. I've let them know I will do no procedure and as long as they call me I will waste their rep's time right back! Now I press 1 and set the phone down, or if driving I will put the phone next to a speaker with the radio on. I don't even know if it's really google or some phishing attempt at getting a business's account and password. If it's google for real they have poor audits to allow so much waste of time on an apparently continuous basis.

Google will never call you, all their user interaction is done online.
Its a phishing attempt by scammers who harvested your contact number from a business listings database.

This is one of the disadvantages however, the bad guys know that google's database on users is bigger than the FBI's
    :)

Gives me more reason to keep harassing them right back!

I use gmail, have files in googledrive that I don't want to store on my computers and I do search with google. (I try others but they don't seem to find what I want as well as google so I keep returning).

I have no use for chrome nor google docs. Even on my android devices, one of the first things I do is add other browsers.

    Google Rocks!

They have everything covered and integrated seamlessly.
Top Level security and the money support behind one of the worlds largest companies.

Too begin with, the google search engine is mindblowing......it kicks the rest to the curb.
Google maps is way cool, show me a link to something thats better??
The fact that nearly all google services are not only the best, but free.

Google spend billions on alternative energy, they are in a battle to make the internet free as it should be.

    Are you for real?
