    Hi all,

My beloved PC has decided it no longer enjoys life and thus will not perform as required.

It started about 4 weeks ago when my wireless card decided to stop working. I tried different cards (plugged directly into the motherboard), but no luck.

I recently moved house and put it back together last week for it to boot fine the first time, then freeze. I reset and since it will not load anything on the monitors. I have tried using the dual setup, or using a single monitor using VGA or DVI or both. Nothing works. You hear it start, but nothing is displayed.

I am wondering if the motherboard is dead? How can I tell this?

All advice and comments welcomed as I really do need it back up and running for work. Many thanks in advance.

    Greetings, SLiving84.

We need more info: make and model # and/or service tag #s of your machine, operating system and service pack #, etc.

Sounds like you been in and out of the case trying different wireless cards. You might have loosened the video card. Open the case up again and be sure all the video attachments are secure.

You could try getting a USB Wifi device.

About the only way to test this is to first check your card ( as plodr suggested ) to see if it is properly seated and then try a different monitor.

    My bad...

Its running Window Vista with the latest SP. It is an Intel Quadcore Q6600 with 4GB DDR2 Ram (cannot remember off the top of my head which). Its a custom build, so its not really got a make or model. Its using a Gigabyte motherboard and has a 1GB Nvidia Geforce 8xxx something.

Checked and double checked - no luck :-(

This doesn't solve the fact it stopped working though...

Tried with two monitors, still nothing!

    Ok - do this:

Download and install Everest, a free system information tool.

Run Everest and click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next - Choose System Summary Only > Next - Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate.
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) - click Save (n.b. Save to desktop, use Browse to locate desktop).

Then attach your log to your next post per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

And how exactly am I going to do that when I cannot see anything on screen and my wireless (for the PC) does not work...

Damn - my bad. I get stuck in a rut sometimes.

Got any spare parts? Looks like you're going to have to start swapping components. Try disconnecting the hard drive, opticals, etc., see if the board will POST.

Also, visually inspect the mobo, look for anything suspicious.

    Thanks man.

Is there anything obvious that I should look for? I really haven't a clue what is happening!!

If anyone is London based, a crate of beer is the reward to whoever can fix this!

Look for the standard: burn tracks, bulging, leaking, or discolored capacitors, make sure the CPU fan is running, check for any obviously overheating components, etc.

Does the mobo have onboard video? Try it if it does.

Try swapping RAM sticks, see if you can change the symptoms.

Scrutinize the mobo and the video card, try to give us some kind of model #s so we can pull up a picture of these things.
