RivaTuner settings regarding starting at Windows Startup

I recently downloaded and installed RivaTuner to change the fan speed to my graphic card.

At one time or another, under the Settings tab, I checked the Run at Windows startup check box. So I restarted the computer real quick to test it out, and it did exactly what I thought it would. When windows starts up I get the normal User Account Control warning. I don't really want that coming up every time, so I unchecked the box.

At another point in time, in the settings panel where I changed the fan speed, I checked the checkbox to apply settings at windows startup. I have since then unchecked that box as well. However, I still get the User Account Control warning at startup. Do I need to go in and manually delete a registry key or something to keep RivaTuner from trying to start or change anything at startup, or what? I would have thought that simply unchecking the box and saving would stop RivaTuner from doing anything at startup, but apparently it's wanting to do something. Any suggestions?

I guess I should also mention that nothing actually runs if I allow it. RivaTuner does not open, and the fan speed does not increase. In fact, I've deleted all custom fan profiles and everything should be default at the moment. I did a HJT scan just to see what RivaTuner put in the registry and this is what I found in the 04's:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RivaTunerStartupDaemon] "C:\Program Files\RivaTuner v2.09\RivaTunerWrapper.exe" /S

Can I just have HJT fix that line to keep it from starting up, or how should I go about fixing this issue? You'd think that RivaTuner would take it's entries out when you uncheck the startup boxes, but I guess it doesn't.

And now a new problem has come up. I think that when I first created my 75% fan speed profile, I accidentally set it at 74%. If I try to delete the profile, then change the fan speed to 75%, and then safe the profile as "75%" the fan speed setting goes back to 74%. Any ideas on that one?

Edit: Change on the fan speed thing. It will change itself from 75% to 74% like a second after I move it. I can more it back to 75% all I want, but after a second or so, it will drop back down to 74% on it's own. Any idea why?

Have you looked in your startup section to see if Riva is there? Start > Run > Msconfig hit ok then look under the Startup tab for anything related to Riva and uncheck it.

Also, there is a standard reset for graphics to help out overclockers that may or maynot be of use to you. What you do is to hold the Ctrl key during bootup, that will reset all your graphics settings to default. It may also be programmed into Riva, you never know.

I'd rather not use msconfig to control the startup.

May I ask why not? Its what MS put it there for. I have half my startup programs turned off from there, including Neros InCd which is the only way to stop it from loading at startup. It doesn't have a configuration that lets you decide, and it doesn't play well with other programs. So what I do is I go into the Ahead(v6) or Nero(v7) directory, find incd.exe and send it to the desktop creating a shortcut so I can start it only when I need it. Once started again, it will not go away unless I restart the pc, there is no way to turn it off. I think that sucks really, when a program takes away your ability to customize the way your system functions it deserves to be turned off.

From everything that I've been able to gather, msconfig is a troubleshooting type tool, not meant to be a permanent solution. I used HijackThis to fix the 04 registry entry. Seems to have fixed the problem just fine. Now the line is gone, rather than just disabled with msconfig. The only reason I'd use msconfig to disable something is if I felt like I might want to turn it back on in the near future, and wouldn't be able to do so using normal means(like changing an option inside the program). I guess it's just a matter of preference.

Thats certainly your purogative, but even the PC Mags when they do an article on speeding up the pc mention turning off things in the startup section, because every software maker and his brother want to start their stuff and leave it running all the time. Thats a waste of your cpu and memory. Just out of curiosity google this "Speed Up Windows Startup with MSConfig" and see what others say about it.
