this has happened to me at two homes and I can't figure out why.

phone line (rj11) is plugged into a rj45 port on the home patch panel to send the phone signal to one of the rooms. Now if i plug an ethernet into the ports it kills the phone signal. Unplug the ethernet which has internet the phone service works again. Please help this is driving me crazy.

I do not understand why you expect it to work.

Phone line carries relatively High Voltage and it is probably get shorted by the Ethernet. Eventually it can damage the Ethernet too.
