    YIPEEE!

    Just saw my first Robins!!!

Here in the frozen tundra, a Robin is THE sign of spring!

I don't think I've ever seen one, actually two, this early b/4. Last week it was 10 below zero, this week, 50.

I hate winter, snow, freezing...but with the arrival of the birds, it is finally at an end!!

I know, pointless post, I just wanted to share my exuberance with the arrival of these red-breasted birds, I understand, though they are protected here, they are really quited delicious! (Maybe I'll get my pellet gun and try one on the bar-by.)

Just to celebrate the almost here Spring!

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Congrats, BP. :highfive

The robins never really left from around here, although it's been a long, cold winter by our standards - guess all the birds from Wisconsin-way come down here to snowbird.

I'm ready for some warm weather: hate the cold. It just seems like the last few years we haven't really had a Spring or Fall - jumps straight from icy to hot and back.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cry:cry Oh don't do that. Such beautiful little creatures. Here in UK they are very tame and become regular visitor to a garden. I even had baby robins coming into my house helping themselves to maggots and meal worms a couple summers back. They are so trusting and watching them bring their young to us was magical.

Nah, I wouldn't really shoot one, 'though there was a time they were considered a real delicacy.

Just happy to see their return!!

And with that, Fair Winds and Following Seas to all!

What, did something need a good shooting? :guns Oh, just the seasons changing. :-D

I am looking forward to spring, but dreading the evil southern summer... I did see what I call 'bluebirds' the other day. Smallish avians, obviously blue in color. I like birds, thinking about putting out a bird feeder, and maybe a hummingbird feeder. Perhaps I can attract a real bird like a hawk, if I get enough 'bait birds'. ;)

I am so looking forward to spring. In my Dad's garden we already have a good selection of feathered friends frequenting the feeders and fat balls, nuts etc. One of the visitors is this lovely looking feller

packed him a tiny suitcase and will send him your way;)
used to have loads of hummingbirds and others around when I had feeders out, but the last 2 years bears have been a major problem. can't afford to repair and replace the feeders and assorted paraphernalia every other day

I do envy you Fred_G, :-D I could watch those things all day, they are so mechanical and jerky. Just fascinating. The other kind we see more commonly is the green woodpecker.

A farmer not to far from where I live is having a bit of a problem with birds, he has set up a couple of gas guns, they go off at regular intervals, the first few days the birds flew off, then they grew used to the noise, the little tweeters take no notice what-so-ever, sit on trees and roof tops, fly down when they feel peckish, the farmer’s neighbours are the only ones being disturbed, I’m almost sure the blackbirds are :p at him, even their trill sounds like a laugh.

The raptors are steadily moving back into the suburbs here. Peregrine falcons mostly - there's a species unique to the Australian southwest. Falco peregrinus submelanogenys.
As for the robins, brandy, shouldn't you be seeing some batmans too?
