Robitussin Spilled on Laptop

Greetings,
My friend spilled some Robitussin on her laptop and it immediately stopped working. It would not start at all. It was awhile ago and I finally got to take a look at it. I opened it up and found a bunch of dust blocking the cooler. After cleaning that out, the computer booted right up., as long as I took the battery out. It said something about overheating and started fine. When I got into windows, it shut down. I booted it up again, and after awhile it shut down. For some reason it wouldn't boot with the battery connected and whenever I tried to plug it back in the computer froze. I never tried to boot it without the battery before cleaning, so it may have been an issue before that. I was wondering if you guys might know what would cause it to shut down randomly and why the battery would cause a problem. It's a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. Thanks.

Battery is bad, Robitussin is causing more problems. At this point, it may be more worthwhile to send into a shop to clean up, or count the losses, and purchase a new computer.

Some laptops, sorry I don't remember the brand, will not boot when the battery no longer holds a charge. It sounds like this Dell has that "feature".
I can say this is not true of my HP. I have an old battery in and it operates okay as long as it is plugged in.

As far as shutting down, there is still some sort of heat problem - you were warned and then it shut down. I'd check the fans. Maybe one is operating intermittently. As long as it operates, the temps stay down and the computer works. When it slows down or stops, the heat rises and the nb shuts off.
