Rome Total War

Hey im new to this stuff, and i had to uninstall my rtw game, but when i went to go and reinstall it, and asked if i wanted to ubdate to DirectX 9.0b i said yes, but it said that i already had a higher version, and now it wont let me play the game, it crashes everytime i load the game map. i would really like some help on this problem.
